Ubisoft has discontinued sales of its online-exclusive racing game The Crew due to imminent changes in server infrastructure and licensing issues. However, current owners of the title can continue playing until the projected server shutdown on March 31, 2024.

In a public announcement, Ubisoft acknowledged: "We realize that this news may disappoint players who are still active in the game, yet this decision has become essential in light of the forthcoming server infrastructure and licensing limitations."

The announcement also addressed the emotional aspect of discontinuing a game, particularly as The Crew was Ubisoft's inaugural title in this genre. They emphasized their commitment to creating outstanding action-driven racing experiences, pointing out ongoing support and new content for its successor, The Crew 2, as well as the latest release, The Crew Motorfest.

While the withdrawal of The Crew from the market is bittersweet, by 2024, the game will have celebrated a decade since its original introduction on platforms including PC, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Ubisoft's newest chapter in the series, The Crew Motorfest, was unveiled in September and offers engaging racing events and online features. Despite efforts to innovate, however, it faces challenges in achieving the depth of realism that distinguishes the most exceptional games in this category from those that are simply good.
